You’ll be able to give the Queenstown Marina in Frankton Arm a wider berth — work’s just started on the $10 million second stage.

Another 112 berths are being added to the 85 launched when the first stage was completed just before Covid hit.

Developer Iraj Barabi, an American Silicon Valley entrepreneur with a home in Queenstown, says his company Lakes Marina Projects has
brought forward the second stage — east of the current marina — by nearly a year due to demand.

‘‘All the berths are being leased, and the strong demand for phase 1 berths, and the waiting list, promoted us to expedite our plans.’’

There’ll be no additional onshore or breakwater works as a second stage was factored into the original marina design, he says.

Bellingham Marine’s again been awarded the contract — ‘‘it’s great to have them back as they know the set-up and the conditions and will
provide the quality we expect’’.

It’s aimed to have the second stage completed by September.

Meanwhile, Fino Wine Bar opened in two of the floating sheds last week.

‘‘We have now had interest in just about all of the remaining floating buildings,’’ Barabi says.
