Queenstown’s Ruby Andrews has achieved a career-best World Championships freeski slopestyle result in her debut.

Racing at the 2023 FIS Freeski World Champs in Bakuriani, Georgia, last week, the 18-year-old finished in sixth place in the women’s final.

Last month, she claimed her first Slopestyle World Cup podium at Mammoth Mountain, which she says helped build her confidence, particularly given it’s her first season on the World Cup circuit.

Of her latest result, Ruby says it feels ‘‘pretty good’’.

‘‘I didn’t manage to put down the best skiing I could have, but I am stoked with the result, nevertheless.

‘‘It’s really cool to be here in Georgia with the whole New Zealand team.’’

Meantime, Queenstown ski racer Alice Robinson crashed out of the women’s World Cup Super-G in Norway on Sunday, losing control and going head-first into a safety fence — however, she eventually got up and made her way down the mountain.
