An Aussie company’s poised to take over the long-term lease of five Queenstown council-owned campgrounds.

It’s understood the company’s seeking Overseas Investment Office approval to take over Queenstown’s Lakeview Holiday Park, Arrowtown Holiday Park and Upper Clutha campgrounds at Glendhu Bay, Albert Town and Lake Hāwea.

Just over eight years ago, the council gave a 25-year ease over the campgrounds to CCR Ltd — 50% owned by Queenstown couple Erna and Toni Spijkerbosch, who own Queenstown’s Creeksyde holiday park, and Wānaka’s Agerta Hofsteenge and Rudolf Sanders.

Under the deal, CCR paid $3.2 million for the lease and annual rent was set at $878,000, subject to a periodic review.

It’s thought the deteriorating health of one of the shareholders is a factor behind the company wanting to sell the lease.

Erna Spijkerbosch declined to comment, but says there are ‘‘confidential documents in place’’.
