Funding round opens

The fifth round of funding for local mental wellbeing initiatives has officially opened.

Run by Te Hau Toka Southern Lakes Wellbeing Group, eligible non-profits can apply for up to $1000 from the Connecting Communities fund, which supports community-led activities and events which encourage people to connect, look after themselves, each other, and have fun.

Group chair Adell Cox says while the communities across the Queenstown-Lakes and Fiordland are moving into a ‘‘new normal’’, people are still experiencing significant challenges which are impacting on mental health.

‘‘Now more than ever it’s important to keep people well and support initiatives that build social conneWction and resilience and help our communities not just survive, but thrive.’’

The last funding round, in November, saw 54 initiatives from Queenstown, Wānaka, Te Anau/Fiordland and Cromwell receive funding totalling more than $50,000, including Luma wellbeing workshops for schools, Happiness House gardening group materials, and Head Light Trust’s ‘Let’s Chalk about Mental Health Queenstown’ project.

The next funding round closes on March 2 — for more details, or to apply, visit southernhealth.nz/tehautoka
