Glenorchy-based Wakatipu High School (WHS) leaver Jack McBeth, who’s planning an aviation career, has won the annual $1000 David Geddes Memorial Scholarship.

The scholarship’s funded by Queenstown’s Returned and Services’ Association (RSA) and the family of the late David Geddes, who helped revive the RSA branch in 2005.

Jack, 18, is pictured at last Friday’s presentation with WHS associate principal Oded Nathan, left, acting RSA branch president Phil Wilson and David Geddes’ widow, Maryann Geddes.

Jack, who was chosen from 23 applicants, is going to Nelson next year to study for a certificate in aeronautical engineering.

Jack’s been on the Glenorchy Community Association board, is a member of the head-of-the-lake’s volunteer fire brigade and is also a keen hunter, tramper and fisherman.
