Four experienced Queenstown valuers have formed the resort’s largest valuation team.

Boasting more than 60 years’ experience between them, Q Property comprises Andrew Hyndman, Craig Sinkinson, Hamish Goldfinch and Barry Murphy.

Hyndman, who started in valuation in 1990, formed Q Property as a consultancy/property advisory business in 2019, after having headed Colliers’ local commercial valuation and property advisory team for 11 years.

Sinkinson, who’d had 14 years’ experience in the industry, joined him on the valuation side in 2021.

They’ve since been joined by Goldfinch, who’s had extensive local and Aussie experience, and, now, Murphy, who’s been with Colliers for the past seven years, where he was originally employed by Hyndman.

At a time of uncertainty, Murphy believes ‘‘it’s so imperative for a valuer to be on a team like this with experienced valuers’’.

‘‘No job goes out without us having a discussion about it.’’

Hyndman says ‘‘the Queenstown market, from a valuer’s perspective, is quite a difficult market to value in’’.

‘‘It’s different from a cookie-cutter market, like in a city.

‘‘Often, the valuer needs to put in a lot more consideration into valuing that building or property in Queenstown than they do elsewhere, so you need to have good local experience and knowledge for that.’’

Murphy suggests the next 12 months ‘‘might be a bit telling for certain parts of the residential market where people bought in the last 12 to 18 months at lower interest rates’’.

‘‘They’re obviously coming off these around now.

‘‘I don’t know how that’ll affect the property market yet, but it will certainly cause a bit of pain.’’

Goldfinch says the market’s ‘‘remained remarkably resilient to date’’.

‘‘We’re seeing lower [sales] volumes, but no price drops, really.’’

Murphy: ‘‘We’ve got a lot of tail winds in the market — tourism is back a lot stronger than what was forecast, even albeit we have a problem with [staff] accommodation.’’

From a commercial perspective, Hyndman says the Queenstown CBD’s experiencing a ‘‘massive renaissance’’ following the prolonged streetworks project.
