Santa Claus will be right at home in Queenstown this week end, when the resort’s Minus 5 Ice Bar opens its doors to help raise money for a Queenstown charity.
For the 11th consecutive year, the Steamer Wharf bar will be transformed into Santa’s Grotto, where the temperature’s as low as -10degC — similar to the conditions at Santa’s North Pole home — with locals invited to bring their family to visit, and get a photo with the man himself and deliver their all-important wish-lists.
This year, Steamer Wharf’s also organised free face painting.
Santa will be in residence between 10am and 2pm tomorrow and Sunday, with professional photos on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, priced at $5 per child or $10 for the whole family — all proceeds will go to Wakatipu Plunket, which works with families to ensure the best start for every child in the Whakatipu.
