One of the main stars of Showbiz Queenstown’s season of Little Shop of Horrors — opening tonight — is, quite literally, ‘‘a bit of a monster’’.

When it came to the carnivorous plant alien, Audrey II, the crew, led by Tamsin Brown and Marty Newell, decided to do a bit of ‘‘Frankensteining’’, director Tiffany Bindon says.

After obtaining two sets of puppets, the crew decided to merge them together and then add their own details until they had something which ‘‘suits the show’’.

The resulting puppet — measuring about 8 feet tall — will be voiced by Alex Fraser for the ten-performance season at the Queenstown Memorial Centre.

Bindon says the show looks ‘‘amazing’’.

‘‘I actually got to hand over the running … and just watch it [on Tuesday] night — I’m just blown away by what everyone’s achieved.

‘‘Everyone’s just ready for the community to see it and love it as much as we do — it’s going to be so much fun.’’

The show runs from tonight till next Saturday, except this coming Monday, from 7.30pm till 10pm, with a special matinee performance this Sunday, from 2pm.
