Employing superb defence, the Queenstown/Central Otago team, Kahui Tipua, beat Mate Ma’a Tonga two tries to one on the opening day of this week’s International Masters of Rugby League Tournament at the local Events Centre.

Pictured fending off an opponent is former Wakatipu Giants player Kasiano Pasitale, who was player of the day.

Twenty-six teams, including four from Australia, are playing in the tournament, which ends this Saturday with games between New Zealand and Aussie selections and South Island and North Island teams.
