The Torpedo7 Mountain Bike National Championships are heading to Queenstown next year, with Coronet Peak hosting the
cross-country and downhill events across two days in February.

The championships, which will be supported by Queenstown Mountain Bike Club and Cycling New Zealand, are a key step in
both Coronet and Queenstown fulfilling ‘‘long-term event aspirations’’, ski area manager Nigel Kerr says.

Coronet Peak has previously hosted MTBNZ Downhill Series events, and the Southland School MTB Championships.

The mountain will also host the 2023 Skoda South Island School MTB Championships after those were cancelled due to Covid restrictions earlier this year.

Torpedo7 chief executive Simon West says NZ is fortunate to have such epic mountain biking trails ‘‘right on our doorstep’’.

‘‘It’s great to see the sport continue to grow in popularity every year and see more and more people out there.’’

Entries for the national champs open on December 5, with the event being held on February 25 and 26.
