Hometown champs

Queenstown’s now home to two national mountain biking champs.

Queen of the trails, Jess Blewitt, 20, defended her downhill crown at Coronet Peak on Sunday for the third consecutive year, while fellow local rider Toby Meek, 18, took out the men’s elite category.

Blewitt finished in 3 minutes 12.75 seconds, ahead of Rotorua’s Jenna Hastings in second (3:20.13), and Queenstown’s Kalani Muirhead in third (3:22).

Meek finished in a blistering 2min 50.87sec, ahead of Canterbury’s Sam Blenkinsop (2:54.31) and Nelson’s Sam Gale (2:54).

In Saturday’s cross country, Auckland’s Matthew Wilson took the overall male title and Taupō’s Sammie Maxwell won the women’s.
