Offer of a replica stickman

A Roxburgh metalworker and sculptor’s offered to make a new ‘stickman’ to replace one nicked from a Kelvin Heights property recently.

Last week, Mountain Scene reported the iconic metre-high sculpture (pictured), which had been perched on the mailbox outside Southlander
Yvonne Evans’ Queenstown holiday home, had gone AWOL.

After reading the article, Chris Stuart contacted Evans and offered to make a new one for her, if the original isn’t returned.

‘‘People do get attached to pieces like this, and other people like to drive past and point it out and take photos, so it’s a shame when they go
missing,’’ he says.

Stuart, who sculpts under ‘Chris’s Crazy Creations’, says the offer’s a way of ‘‘giving back’’ after he received significant support from his local
community when his council attempted to stop him collecting materials for his work from the local metal recycling centre.

‘‘Every couple of weeks I like to make a piece for charity or just a good cause and I saw this as an opportunity to help her out.

‘‘It brings a smile to people’s faces — in a lot of the artwork I make, I try to make people smile when they see it.’’

While there have been no developments in tracking down the missing stickman, Evans says she’s thrilled with the offer, and the pair have
plans to meet and work on a design.
