About 4000 high-performing Chinese Amway salespeople are about to be rewarded with a visit to Queenstown.

They’ll be arriving in nine waves between this coming Tuesday and December 5, and packing several activities into their five-day, four-night stays.

It’s understood they’ll be the Hilton Hotel’s only guests for the entire period, with one wave leaving the same day the next arrives.

For this incentive tour, which Tourism New Zealand successfully pitched for, the salespeople will be split between Queenstown and Auckland.

In 2018, when the first tour took place, they all stayed in Queenstown.

That year, each wave concluded with a function at Coronet Peak, complete with fireworks, whereas this time these functions will be hosted by the Queenstown Ice Arena.

Destination Queenstown CEO Mat Wood says the timing’s very good as October, November and December are shoulder-season months.

Splitting 4000 visitors into nine waves is also ‘‘quite manageable, that’s something the town can handle quite easily’’.

Tourism NZ estimates Amway’s entire NZ visit will be worth about $40 million to the economy.
