An experienced contemporary art commentator’s talking about ‘Art and the Revolution’ in Queenstown tomorrow to launch a programme of talks and events.

Robert Leonard — who’s curated New Zealand’s representation at various world art shows like the Venice Biennale — will explore how revolutionary images and concepts enter the mainstream, and the implications for art and curating.

The talk’s at Starkwhite gallery, in Earl Street, from 4pm, and is being supported by Queenstown Lakes Creative Communities.

It’s the start of a programme called ‘Curious’, organised by local Starkwhite director Kelly Carmichael.

‘‘I wanted Curious to be a platform that lets us explore the stuff that shapes our world, the important and the everyday, the serious as well as the quirky,’’ she says.

‘‘I’m deeply curious and always wanting to scratch the surface of something to find out more or encounter a new idea.

‘‘If we continue to receive funding to bring speakers and events to this region, I hope Curious will take the Queenstown-Lakes community on an exciting exploration of visual culture and creative thinking.’’
