‘Little Shop’ cast and crew awarded

Showbiz Queenstown has recognised a host of cast and crew involved in this year’s production of Little Shop of Horrors in its annual awards, which date back to about 1990.

Male lead Andy Bell (Seymour, pictured) was awarded the ‘Kenny Maurice Memorial’ for being the most helpful to other company members and the ‘‘overall good’’ of the production, voted on by the cast, and the ‘President’s Pick’, by Emma Pullar, for his contribution to the show.

Puppeteer Megan Gross, who operated the Audrey IIs, was recognised with the Allen Cheak Memorial, awarded by director Tiffany Bindon to the cast member who displayed the most personal development during rehearsals, while the ‘Committee Award’ went to Mitchell Walsh (Orin Scrivello), for his contribution to the show.

New talent Sofia Taquet (Chiffon) was given the ‘Hoofer’s Award’ for dance or movement contributions by choreographer Drey Tendron, and the ‘Scooter Reid Memorial Award’, given to a crew member for their contribution and commitment, was jointly awarded to stage manager and production assistant Kerry Turner and set painter Tamsin Browne.

Lighting operator Kieran Leftley won the $500 ‘Showbiz Queenstown Douglas Kamo Scholarship’, to advance his musical theatre career, and Eve Corbett (Ronnette) was given the ‘NMS Award’ for the cast member who went ‘‘above and beyond’’ for the production.

The Nightingale Award, selected by musical director Pol Nicholson for the person who made the biggest progress in their singing, went to Danni Blow (Crystal).
