Your big chance to become master of the cast is up for grabs at Queenstown’s annual fly fishing course on October 14.
The Wakatipu Anglers Club event will arm you with the skills to lure the most sceptical of trout with a full day of hands-on tuition at the Queenstown Events Centre.
Topics include casting, fly selection, finding fish, knots, reading water, insect life – understanding what the trout feed on, how to catch and release properly, and what equipment you need to put everything together.
Wakatipu Anglers Club secretary Colin Heath says the course gives beginners the opportunity to pick the brains of those who have had more than 50 years of catching trout on the fly.
Casting is key, Heath says.
“You need to master the cast, that’s the important thing.
‘‘If you learn to cast, you can then pick up the rest quickly.”
Entry is $150 for the 9am to 5pm event.
