Wakatipu High musos and actors have shone at recent regional and national events.

From 800-plus bands, all-girl combo Estrogen made it to the top 30 of the Rockquest competition by making the national semi-finals.

The band — whose efforts won them a live recording session in Christchurch — comprise, standing, from left, Mya Wilcox (guitar), Mikaela Patterson (drums), Emily Johnston (bass) and, front, Ruby Ross (vocals).

Earlier, at ARA Jazzquest, in Christchurch, school jazz bands came away with a gold grading for the jazz ensemble and a high silver grading for the big band — both good results given the impact of students who couldn’t make the trip.

Billie Carey again made the final 50 of the Play It Strange student songwriting comp.

And Wakatipu High drama students had success in the local and regional rounds of the 2022 TheatreFest event run by Theatre New Zealand.

Students took out four awards, with James Scoles winning a ‘distinction in acting’ award at the regional finals.
