It may have been going for more than 100 years but there’s always something new about Queenstown’s Lake Hayes A&P Show.

This year’s event, on tomorrow at the showgrounds beside Lake Hayes, celebrates its 108th year.

Lake Hayes A&P Society president Kate Hamilton says the grounds are looking absolutely incredible.

‘‘The weather seems to have arrived at the right time.’’

Central Otago farmer and former TV personality Matt Chisholm will be the special guest — he’s a rural mental health advocate, and will be talking about this subject.

Arrowtown resident and celebrity chef Nadia Lim will be giving food demonstrations, and her farm, Royalburn Station, will also have demonstrations of the station’s new beer, Swifty.

There will be the traditional steam engines and traction engines on display, and the home industries schedule will include a new section for the most gigantic vegetable.

Prime sheep and other animals will be on display, ready for the judges’ critique in the hunt for ‘champion overall stock’, and there’ll also be a hunt for the best fleece in the wool tent.

And, for the second year, a hobby horse competition, combining athletic ability with style and grace, will also be included in the main arena.

Hamilton says there’s always plenty to do at the show, and people make the most of everything.

There’ll also be a look-a-like animal section with Remarkable Vets doing the judging.

The show’s traditionally the first on the circuit for the horse riding set, and she’s expecting plenty of entries in the equestrian category.
