A night for art lovers

Five Queenstown CBD galleries come alive tonight, till 7pm, for the latest ‘First Thursdays’ initiative based around the Earl Street/Marine Parade art hub.

Acclaimed New Zealand artist Fiona Pardington, whose exhibition, ‘Objects of Desire’, is on at Starkwhite, will also show images from her ongoing still life series.

Curator Kelly Carmichael’s giving a talk on her still life practice at 6pm.

At Artbay’s front room, a new exhibition by Libby McColl, featuring Otago scenes, opens tonight.

Her paintings, using a spontaneous and versatile technique, are inspired by rural NZ.

Romer Gallery has a new photograph by Stephan Romer of Sam Summers Hut — a relic of the Whakatipu goldfields, on the Mt Crichton Loop track, built by prospector Sam Summers.

Milford Galleries presents a solo exhibition, ‘Zelandia’, by painter Peter James Smith, a former professor of mathematics and art whose images of the land are overlaid with data, text, references and graffiti.

A new collection by renowned Kiwi artist Max Patte — featuring circular sculptures combining LED lights with strong zones of colour — is on show at Lightworks.
