Former Southlander Elliot Crowther came up with the goods yesterday.

The 36-year-old pro, who’s now based in the United States, put the hammer down during the 2023 Tour of Southland’s fourth stage, during which cyclists travelled the 108km distance from Mossburn to The Remarkables.

Crowther, racing for Quality Foods Southland, is pictured crossing the finish line — a feat he managed in 2 hours, 39 minutes and 12 seconds to take glory, followed by Kane Richards (Couplands-Booth Logistics) 19 seconds back, and Dan Gardner (PRV-Pista Corsa) in third, 25 seconds behind Crowther.

Riders’ legs are in for another punishment today as they tackle the 154km fifth stage, starting at Invercargill’s SIT Zero Fees Velodrome and finishing atop Bluff Hill.
