To try to attract Queenstown marathon runners wanting to soothe their aching muscles, Southern Lakes Swimming Club’s holding its club open day tomorrow morning.

President Sheena Ashford-Tait says they’re also keen to attract new and past members to sign up for the season ahead.

Swimmers are asked to turn up at 9.15am by the Frankton marina Coastguard headquarters, before taking the plunge at 10am.

Swimmers can either try the club’s full swim lane course, which is 2.5km, or any shorter length — buoy markers are placed every 250 metres.

Kayak support will be provided by some members’ partners.

There’ll also be wetsuits and personal tow buoys available for purchase.

‘‘We’re really going to push the safety this year,’’ Ashford-Tait says.

‘‘We want people on the lake brightly coloured and highly visible.

‘‘We’ve had incidents with people on jetskis thinking our swim lane is a slalom course.’’
