A tardy winter is finally set to deliver some snow to Queenstown and surrounds by this weekend.

If the forecast’s correct, the resort’s skifields should get a decent dump just in time for the July school holidays.

MetService meteorologist John Law says a southerly is expected to bring colder temperatures and snowfall to 400m by Saturday.

NZSki boss Paul Anderson says the wintry blast should see The Remarks and Coronet skifields operating at close to full noise by this weekend, with good snow-making conditions through to the middle of next week.

He predicts The Remarks will catch 35cm by Monday, and is confident Coronet Peak, which has been closed since Sunday, will reopen by Saturday with most trails in operation.

The Remarks should also have most lifts going by the weekend.
