The last auctions for a piece of Queenstown’s tourism history close tomorrow.

Listed on Trade Me are the final set of the iconic four-seat Skyline gondolas, including three unique cabins.

Cabin no.23 has been used in promo photography for the past decade, while the Luma-themed, Stargazing and Rugby World Cup 2011 cabins are also under the virtual hammer, closing every half hour — in that order — from 7.30pm tomorrow.

So far, the highest-fetching four-seater is cabin no.7, which went for $8855.

Auction proceeds are heading to the Branches Trust and the Wilding Control Group, while some cabins are being donated, for example, to the Wakatipu High School Foundation and Living Options in Arrowtown.

Skyline general manager Wayne Rose says he’s spoken to auction-winners, including one man who’s turning his cabin into a sauna.

He says Skyline’s stoked with the response, and while the $100,000 target was a number he ‘‘kind of threw out there’’ at the start, it’s tracking well.
