Queenstown’s long-running Bruce Grant Youth Trust’s under new management.

Set up to preserve the legacy of Bruce Grant, an Olympic skier and extreme sportsman who died after summiting K2, in the Himalayas, in 1995, the youth trust’s granted more than half a million dollars to help locals, aged under 25, achieve in the sporting, arts and cultural fields.

It’s now coming under the umbrella of the Wakatipu Community Foundation (WCF), which builds and manages endowment funds.

Pictured by the Bruce Grant memorial in the Queenstown Gardens are, from left, trust founder Alison Beaumont, WCF CEO Jennifer Belmont, trustee Evan Bloomfield and trust chair Craig ‘Ferg’ Ferguson.

Ferguson says the WCF will do ‘‘a lot of, I guess, the hard work’’.

‘‘It just allows us to focus more energy on fundraising, which will be crucial.’’

The trust will continue to make decisions on grant applications each year.
