The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour’s returning to Queenstown next month.

Presented by the New Zealand Alpine Club, and hosted by the Otago section, this year the resort’s the first stop of the NZ leg of the world tour, with two programmes screening across two nights at the Queenstown Memorial Centre, each including seven or eight short films.

On May 3, the ‘Ruapehu’ programme includes movies like Balkan Express, which follows German mountaineers Max Kroneck and Jochen Mesle’s 2500 kilometre bike and ski journey via the Balkans mountains, while the next day’s ‘Tasman’ programme includes A Baffin Vacation, documenting Erik Boomer and Sarah McNair-Landry’s 45-day multisport expedition travelling through the remote landscape of Baffin Island.

All profits from the festival are used to support recreation and access to NZ’s alpine regions — half the funds raised in Queenstown will go directly back to the Otago section for local use.

Tickets for the Queenstown screenings are on sale via Eventbrite; see banff.nz for more info.
