Wakatipu High School (WHS) wiped the stage floor to win five awards at the regional TheatreFest competition in Dunedin last week.

The students did well against Otago schools on and off the stage in the fast-paced comp that required them to perform just one act of a play.

Bethany Graf (centre, back) won the Excellence in Acting prize while her WHS mates won the following group awards: Distinction Award for Overall Production — Best Performance at the Festival, Best Overall Youth Production, Excellence in Ensemble and Excellence in Overall Design.

They’ll next contest the Lower South Island Regional TheatreFest on August 26 and 27.

Director Rochelle Tickle (back row, third from left) says considering the students only had a few weeks to prepare ‘‘it was amazing to see such awesome results’’.

‘‘The adjudicator, Annette Thomson, gave us some insightful words of advice on things we could change and rearrange to make the performance better.

‘‘We have already started our rehearsals to prepare for the next round in hopes we make it to nationals.”
