Benefiting: Current Margaret Templeton Educational Trust scholars include, from left, Niki Matsumoto Nakao, Rohil Prasad, Jack McBeth and Minna Zhu

Four Wakatipu High school leavers are the latest beneficiaries of one of Queenstown’s most generous scholarships.

Margaret Templeton Educational Trust tertiary education scholarships — $5000 a year, for up to three years — have been awarded to Fern Chalmers, Minna Zhu, Jack McBeth and Rohil Prasad.

They join nine existing recipients — Benjamin and Marigold Kunath, Niki Matsumoto Nakao, Kate Hansen, Maria Yloiza E Rizo, Hana Leyden, Tasuku Yoneto, Rei Watanabe and Leah Kissick.

The scholarship, for students who’d otherwise have difficulty financing their studies, was set up in 2008 following the death of prominent Queenstown environmentalist and community watchdog Margaret Templeton, who died three years earlier, aged 93.

The trustees are Kerry O’Donnell, Walter Rutherford, Greg Thompson and Pauline Lawrence.

O’Donnell says they’re continually blown away by how committed the students are — ‘‘we always have some great stories, and this year was no exception’’.
