Along with some new classrooms, Queenstown Primary School charges will start next term with a brand new playground.

Work started last June to modernise the 49-year-old school, initially by shifting 11 relocatable classrooms from Wakatipu High School to the school grounds, where they’ve been redeveloped for the primary school.

Additionally, there’s been landscaping work around them, including a paved concrete area and new decking.

And soon they’ll be able to enjoy the new junior playground, astroturf basketball and netball courts, and sandpit, required after QPS gave up two of its classrooms to accommodate Queenstown Playcentre, which moved from its former Stanley St site, late last year.

School principal Fiona Cavanagh says the project’s experienced small delays due to adverse weather, but they are planning an official opening in coming weeks.
