First Thursdays Queenstown, from 5 till 7pm today, features new exhibitions at five CBD galleries and a bookshop — plus two talks.

The exhibitions are at Starkwhite, Milford Galleries, Romer, Artbay and Lightworx — all in the Earl Street/Marine Parade precinct — and at nearby Bound Books.

Pictured is a painting of a tui, entitled ‘In dreams you are kept’, by Hawke’s Bay artist Heather Denison, who’s showing at Artbay.

Other artists exhibiting include Korean-New Zealand artist Seung Yul Oh (Starkwhite), Kereama Taepa and Leanne Morrison (Milford Galleries), Stephan Romer (Romer Gallery), Robert Jahnke, Max Patte and Mark Hill (Lightworx) and local cartoonist/illustrator Jay Cassells (Bound Books).

At 6pm, Starkwhite’s hosting a talk about Oh’s work by its curator, Kelly Carmichael, and Te Atamira arts and cultural coordinator, Louise Garrett.

And at 6.30pm Cassells talks about his work at Bound Books.
