Six Queenstown CBD art galleries are extending opening hours today — 5pm to 7pm — as part of a free First Thursdays initiative celebrating the diversity of the resort’s arts and cultural scene.
Among them are Starkwhite, which features two new works by Fiona Pardington, including one (pictured) depicting a kiwi found in the local Shotover/Kimiākau area.
Artbay’s launching a new exhibition of large-scale botanical paintings by Sydney-based Diana Watson, while its upstairs space shows large, intricately-expressive portraits by Thai artist Virut Panchabuse, who uses collage techniques.
In the same building, Lightworx shows innovative combinations of light, colour and space.
Milford Galleries has a group exhibition including work by sculptor, jeweller and carver Chris Charteris, while Romer Gallery features large-scale landscape photographs by Stephan Romer.
