Cluing up kids

Hundreds of Queenstown kids are now officially ‘‘Clued Up’’.

Last week, 320 Year 6 pupils from across the Whakatipu took part in the third annual Clued Up Kids event at the Queenstown Events Centre, hosted by Civil Defence Emergency Management — advisor Craig Gibson’s pictured talking to youngsters about ‘‘grab and go bags’’.

Other facilitators included police, St John, Search and Rescue and Fire and Emergency NZ, Sport Otago, Queenstown’s council’s animal control team, and Coastguard Queenstown

Rotating through activities, kids played “junior detective” with the police, learnt first aid basics, how to pack for an adventure, escaping a fire and emergency evacuation for pets, safe scooting, water and earthquake safety, among other things

Held for the first time in 2021, the programme’s aimed at instilling resilience and confidence through hands-on experiences for kids across the Queenstown-Lakes.
