Chewing the fat on local food

The importance of locally-grown food, and what can be done to increase its availability, will be the focus of a Shaping our Future (SoF)
workshop this Sunday.

The session, at the Lake Hayes Pavilion, will be introduced by Royalburn Station co-owner Carlos Bagrie (pictured), who’ll share the property’s journey before a shared lunch and a brainstorming session around smart solutions to overcome barriers to grow food
locally.

SoF chair Vanessa van Uden says locally-grown food’s a subject that ‘‘always seems to crop up’’ during community consultation exercises, so the timing seemed right for a specific event on the topic.

Executive officer John Glover says it should be a ‘‘relaxed, fun and enjoyable session’’.

‘‘We’d like people to bring a plate of something that represents locally-grown food to share for lunch, if possible, and we will have some activities for the kids as we are mindful that it will be school holidays.’’

The event runs from noon till 3pm.

Admission’s free, but registrations are required via bit.ly/3LFFd1j
