Chorus is on the hunt for local artists to put their personal touches on Queenstown’s telecommunications cabinets.

The Cabinet Art Programme started in Auckland in 2010, an initiative designed to reduce the amount of vandalism to cabinets.

It was so successful it was extended across New Zealand — now, an average of 170 cabinet murals are completed each year.

Chorus community relations manager Jo Seddon says they’re on the hunt for Queenstown-Lakes artists to design and paint murals on the five cabinets nominated by Queenstown’s council — two in Queenstown, one in Arrowtown and one at Lake Hayes — that reflect the community’s stories.

Artists will be paid be tween $600 and $1700, depending on the size of the cabinet, have till August 31 to submit their designs via chorus.co.nz/community/cabinet-art-programme
