Voting papers are being received — and returned — across the Whakatipu ahead of this year’s local body elections, but there are still a couple of opportunities to meet candidates before votes are cast.

Tomorrow, the Arrowtown-Kawarau ward council candidates will be holding an informal meet-and-greet at Cargo Gantley’s, from 2pm till 4pm, following Queenstown council’s ward change last year.

Historically, Arthurs Point residents have voted in the Queenstown-Whakatipu ward, but from now will vote in the new ward, along with residents in Dalefield, Shotover Country, Lake Hayes Estate, Arrowtown and Gibbston.

And on Sunday, mayoral candidates will join the Wānaka-Upper Clutha ward and community board candidates at the Albie Function Room in Albert Town from 3pm till 5pm for a candidate meeting organised by the residents’ association.

Almost 2% of eligible voters in the district had cast their votes by Wednesday afternoon, with a total of 547 voting papers returned.

Voting papers need to be returned in the post by October 4, or dropped in to the council offices in Queenstown or Wānaka by noon on October 8.
