Drops from two Whakatipu craft beer brewers have been recognised at the 2023 New Zealand Beer Awards, announced in Christchurch last Saturday.

This year 80 companies submitted 825 entries across 123 style classes.

Queenstown’s Altitude Brewing won a gold medal for their Homeward Bound and bronzes for their Double Dog and Sled Dog draughts in the juicy/hazy category.

In the international category they won a silver for Yeti’s Blanket and a bronze for First Ascent draught.

And in the amber/dark lager they picked up a silver for the Singletrack Mind amber dark ale can and two bronzes for Festbier and Super Blood Moon draughts.

Altitude also won silver for the Southern Lights draught and bronze for the Wayfinder can in the international pale ale category, and bronze for its Cliffhanger draught in the India pale ale.

In stout and porter, Altitude won silver for its Ruaille Buaille (Roolya Boolya) can, while Glenorchy Brew Co took home a bronze for its Dark Sky Oatmeal Stout draught.

Glenorchy Brew Co also won three bronzes in the New Zealand style, for their Glacier, Mountain Ale and Paradise Pilsner draughts.

Altitude picked up two bronzes in that category for the Powder Day and Scenic Route draughts.

In specialty and experimental, Altitude’s Passionfruit IPA with Brettanomyces bottle and their Zen Shiro draught won silver, while their Communion draught won bronze.

Meantime, Wānaka’s Rhyme & Reason won the Beer Tourism Award and Simon Ross, of MicroBrewTech, won the Morton Coutts Award for Innovation.
