It’s golf, but not quite as you know it.

Next month, Queenstown businesspeople will go head to head at the Kelvin Heights golf course in a new tournament, organised by the Queenstown Business Chamber of Commerce.

But CEO Sharon Fifield says would-be entrants don’t need to be good at golf to enter ‘Four Play on the Fairway’, ‘‘you just have to be really good at having fun’’.

The 4-ball better-ball, or ambrose, format sees 20 teams of four play 18 holes at the course, overlooking Lake Whakatipu, with a cart included.

There’s just one catch — players can only use one club for the entire round.

Unlike the Chamber’s ever-popular epay tournament, held every October, which is highly competitive and for more serious golfers, Fifield says the idea of this event’s more about having fun and networking either with other businesses or clients.

‘‘Businesses can sponsor a hole, which is an awesome way to get their brand in front of local businesspeople, and, like the [epay tournament] at Millbrook, they can do fun activations.

‘‘It’s just a fun day out.’’

Fifield says it costs $1000 for a team of four to enter; the price includes drinks, food, the cart and a barbecue at which a variety of prizes will be handed out, including one for the best-dressed foursome, and the presentation of the inaugural ‘Four Play’ trophy.

Limited spots remain for the March 20 tourney, which goes from 11.30am to about 6pm — to enter, email [email protected]
