Then there was one.

Queenstown couple Meron and Malcolm Blakey are not renewing their lease on Gibbston’s Cargo Cellar Door to concentrate on their Arthurs Point venture, Cargo Gantley’s.

The couple, who’re hosting a closing celebration on April 15, took over leasing the former Waitiri Creek Wines cellar door in late 2017.

Besides offering lunches and tastings of Cargo beer and wine from their wine partners, they hosted many concerts featuring international and Kiwi artists like Fatboy Slim, Carl Cox, Ben Harper, Matt Corby, The Black Seeds, Sir Dave Dobbyn and Fly My Pretties.

Their final party will feature Wellington muso Graeme James, who played during their first summer.

Till then, they’ll only trade weekends.

‘‘We have greatly enjoyed created a family-friendly space where people can come to relax and enjoy beautiful scenery and the Cargo style of hospitality,’’ they say, while also thanking neighbours, suppliers and partners who’ve supported them.

They’re now looking forward to focusing all their energies on Cargo Gantley’s.

Earthworks started there this week for a brew hall, comprising a brewery and multi-purpose events space, to open early next year.
