In a coup for Wakatipu junior rugby, an under-11 team won its grade at the long-established pre-season Taieri Sevens at Mosgiel, near Dunedin, early this month.

Parent coaches Grant Crotty, top left, and Corey Tiananga, top right, and surprise guest, injured All Black Anton Leinert-Brown, are pictured with, back row, from left, Xavier Crotty, Finley Kendrick, Ollie Broughton, Liam Tiananga, Connor O’Reilly, Josh
Rannard and, front row, Baxter Moffat, Jack Bamber, Hudson Banks and Johnny Swaffield.

The juniors normally play a pre-season tournament in Alexandra, but that was cancelled due to Covid.

Meanwhile, junior rugby kicked off across the Basin last Saturday with 15 Wakatipu teams and eight from Arrowtown ranging from under-sevens, playing rippa rugby, through to open grade, or U13s.
