The Remarkables’ ad-minstration boss Mo Rush gets stuck in to snow preparations at the Sugar Bowl chair before the ski field’s planned opening this Saturday.
NZSki’s boasting ample amounts of the white stuff at the resort – even enough to open the Shadow Basin chair and Homeward runs for the second consecutive year, ski area boss Ross Lawrence says.
“Last year was the first time in the history of The Remarkables that we were able to open everything on day one and that’s been closely followed this year.
“That sends a strong message, certainly to the locals, about how much snow there is up here.”
The base area has snow coverage of 65cm and 80cm at the top.
Both The Stash and big terrain park, plus a few features on novice trails, will open, Lawrence says.
New to the ski field is a revamped café and menu, plus the Rastus Burn Coffee Bar. The coffee bar has a state-of-the-art mini oven that can cook a meat pie in 90 seconds, Lawrence says.
Youngsters can also look forward to a new bouncy castle in the Skiwiland kids’ area.
A new, purpose-built stairway accesses the magic carpet conveyor belt up to the base building, which Lawrence says is much more user-friendly.
