Racing to the boundary

A Queenstown ball against a Wanaka fieldsman – and Wanaka wins.

Albion’s Myles Topping chases down a ball struck by Queenstown captain/coach Neville Perkins during Wanaka’s 86-run senior cricket win at the Events Centre last Saturday.

Queenstown, bolstered by Otago rep Leighton Morgan’s 42, mustered only 117 in reply to Albion’s 203 for 9 for the local side’s first defeat in three Koford Cup/Burnett Shield matches this season.

However, the next day Queenstown upset Oamaru with a spectacular one-run win in a national club knockout competition quarter-final.

Oamaru was coasting in reply to Queenstown’s 158 – Jarred Andrew top-scoring with 41 – before the North Otago side was routed for 157, thanks to Sean Windle’s 6-22.

Queenstown now travels to Dunedin to play that city’s Albion side in a southern zone semi-final on Sunday – after an away Koford Cup game against Alexandra on Saturday.
