Queenstown powerlifter Mark Hannah, who trains at Queenstown Events Centre, makes light work of some heavy lifting at CrossFit Queenstown last Saturday afternoon during the South Island Powerlifting Championships.

Organised by Southern Powerlifting Association, 49 lifters from across the country competed in bench press, squat and deadlift events during the champs, which was also the last chance for many to qualify for the nationals, being held in Christchurch in September.

Hannah, a local structural engineer, competed in the open male under-105kg class, in which he squatted 175kg, benched 125kg and deadlifted 212.5kg, for a total of 507.5kg, a 15.5kg personal best.
