Young Queenstown sisters led the Southern Steel and Mainland Tactix netball teams onto court for the teams’ recent clash in Invercargill.

Kyla, 10, and Ayla Yorke, 8, are pictured be fore the game with respective captains Shannon Saunders (left) and Jane Watson.

The Queenstown Primary students were selected for the honour as part of national netball sponsor ANZ’s ‘future captains’ programme.

Kayla got to sit courtside and high-five the players — ‘‘I felt a bit nervous but I still really
enjoyed it’’.

‘‘I told the Selby-Rickit sisters it’s pretty cool they are sisters but play on different teams.

‘‘I hope that will be Ayla and me one day.’’

Kyla says she also picked up some tips from the premiership players.

‘‘Before the ball could go out they would flick it to one of their teammates rather than letting it go to the other team, and I want to try dummy passes like Tiana Metuarau.’’
