Queenstown mountain biker Louise Ferguson made a splash in Rotorua recently — almost literally — taking out the elite women’s downhill at Crankworx in Rotorua.

It was Ferguson’s first gold medal on a Crankworx World Tour podium, her win — netting her $6300 — secured in soggy conditions, with 75mm of rain falling during the day.

She’s pictured (centre) with, from left, men’s runner-up Brook MacDonald, men’s winner Sam Blenkinsop, and third place-getters Caitlin Flavell and Matt Walker last Friday.

Meantime, Crankworx Summer Series is on its way back to the Whakatipu next year.

Held for the first time last November-December, across the Central Lakes, the ultimate mountain biking roadie will return in February and March.

The enduro’s in Alexandra on February 28 and March 1, the dual slalom’s Wānaka March 4-5, the downhill’s at Cardrona March 7-9 and it’ll
finish at Queenstown’s Kerry Drive pump track on March 11 and 12.
