Up and running: Tuki Huck soft-launched Official Tracks to Queenstown Marathon participants

A Queenstowner’s soft-launched a business that times your runs or walks any time you want.

Conceived during lockdown, Official Tracks is the brainwave of Tuki Huck, who wanted people to enjoy their own running experience without anything needing to be organised.

Last week, he got council consent for start/finish gates at Queenstown’s Marine Parade and outside Hilton Hotel.

Wearing a timing chip on your t-shirt, anyone can run/walk between the gates or to and from either of them over 3km, 5km, 10km, half marathon and marathon distances.

As soon as you finish, your time comes up on your phone or computer, and you’re logged on a Queenstown ‘leaderboard’.

You’re also notified when you record a personal best.

Huck says, through tech partner MyLaps, he’s using Olympic-standard marathon timing technology.

Tags can even be bought for your dog — ‘‘we’re going to have a doggy leaderboard’’.

He hopes to install the start/finish gates over the next month or so, and till then is selling tags for special pre-launch prices.

Huck believes Official Tracks will suit anyone from serious athletes to those running/walking for health and fitness.

Once Queenstown’s up and running, so to speak, he’ll look to expand overseas, probably starting in Australia.
