Queenstown-raised ski coach/guide Tim Cafe, right, surprises fellow local, tennis pro Ben McLachlan, at the US Open in New York City recently.
McLachlan and his doubles partner, Raven Klaasen, had just won their first-round match.
Cafe, who’s based in the United States, is working at the tournament as a runner for cable sports channel ESPN.
‘‘It was a real pleasure to see [Ben] in action,’’ Cafe says.
‘‘We both had Lan Bale as a coach back in the day at the tennis club.
‘‘Although he’s a bit younger than me, we did play once or twice.’’
McLachlan and Klaasen went on to lose their second-round match in a third-set tie-breaker.
