Jog in the park for marathon queen

Three-time marathoner Jacqui Davies (right) dashes off on her shortest race – the 5km final leg of last Saturday’s Lake Hayes Triathlon.

The 38-year-old, veteran of the Motatapu, New York and Challenge Wanaka marathons, ran like the clappers – her Navman timer clocked her at 13.5kmh – to help her colleagues, swimmer Paula Gosney and sister-in-law cyclist Rachel Jackson, finish second-fastest women’s team in 1hr 33min 38sec.

They were 18 minutes behind winners Sarah McLaren, Frances Newbold and Laura MacKay.

The triathlon attracted 165 competitors – the individual winner was Christchurch 18-year-old Tom Davison in 1:03.53.
