Hawkridge claims victory at Jack’s Point

A Queenstown multisporter claimed glory in the gruelling 8hrs@Jacks mountain biking marathon.

Jim Hawkridge whizzed around the 7km loop at Jack’s Point 16 times on his singlespeed – the only one in the event – during the non-stop race last Saturday. The fastest lap time he clocked was 26 min 48sec.

The highest number of laps achieved was 17, run up by top mixed group Team JRW.

Hardy Over the Hill team member Paul Woodward was labelled a “hero” by team-mates after continuing to race
despite breaking a bone in his hand during a fall.

They finished second, just one minute behind mixed veteran pedallers The Hounds.

Race director Geoff Hunt says he was pleased with the turnout – the individuals section doubled to 10 contenders – and the “ideal” weather.
