Good things take time.

After several delays, Queenstown councils’ sport and rec boss Simon Battrick’s stoked to be putting the finish ing touches on the Queenstown Events Centre’s new astroturf.

Last November, Mountain Scene reported City Hall had made basic plans for a new multi-sports pitch at the Frankton sports site, with the primary goal of offering a long-awaited hockey pitch.

Till now, the 130-odd Wakatipu Hockey Club players have had to travel to Cromwell for matches, and have made do with two tennis courts by Remarkables Primary.

Work properly began on the new pitch, which will also be available for other sports, including football, in February.

Battrick says, all going to plan, the new turf — complete with floodlights — will be finished early next month.
