Queenstown Tennis Club has a national title-holder in its ranks.
Dan Milburn, 12, is pictured with Timaru’s Maia Liu, after they won the mixed doubles at the recent 12-and-under nationals in Christchurch.
Seeded second, the pair survived two extremely close matches before beating the third seeds in the final.
Dan also made the boys’ singles semis where he lost narrowly to the top seed and eventual winner — he then won the third/fourth playoff.
He and brother Noa, 10, made the semis of the boys’ doubles, too.
Noa also recently won the South Island primary schools’ doubles title in Timaru.
The brothers are both coached by club coach Mark Milburn, who happens to be their dad.
Meanwhile, another brother, Kai, 13, who’s nationally ranked no.2 in his age group, takes on Queenstown tennis pro, newly-engaged Ben McLachlan, in an exhibition game at the club’s Gardens courts tonight at 6pm as part of the club’s Christmas party.
