Not this year: The 2020 Peak to Peak's in the can

Covid’s kiboshed the Peak to Peak.

The multisport race’s organisers have cancelled it with ‘‘great regret’’ as a result of the government’s announcement on Monday that Covid alert levels would remain unchanged for another week, media manager Margo Berryman says.

Originally slated for September 12, it was postponed to this Saturday because of the
continuing Covid restrictions.

‘‘This is a huge disappointment for the organising team, and for the large field of athletes who have been training so hard, but it is outside of our control,’’ Berryman says.

Competitors will be refunded their entry fees.

Linking The Remakables and Coronet Peak skifields, it’s NZ’s longest-running winter multisport race, started by Geoff Hunt in 1994 as a Winter Festival event.

He sold it last year to a subsidiary of 100% Pure Racing, the company behind the GODZone adventure race.
